Burnley’s draw brought them closer to relegation.
Arsenal took a strong lead in the Premier League title race, highlighted by 16-year-old Max Dowman’s impressive solo goal, making him the youngest scorer in the league’s history.
In a home match, Arsenal won 2-0 against Everton, with late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Dowman. Manchester City, in second place, could only manage a 1-1 draw against West Ham later on Saturday.
This result increased Arsenal’s lead to nine points, a significant moment in their pursuit of the English league title for the first time since 2004.
Dowman made his impact felt just after coming on in the second half, marking his third Premier League appearance in a standout season where he also became the youngest player in Champions League history.
His cross from the right went by Everton’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, and hit Arsenal substitute Piero Hincapie. Gyokeres then scored from close range to open the scoring.
In stoppage time, Dowman picked up the ball in his half after a cleared corner, skillfully maneuvered past two defenders, and scored into an empty net as Pickford was out of position.
Manchester City was unable to keep up, conceding an equalizer shortly after Bernardo Silva gave them the lead in the first half.
This match capped off a difficult week for City, which had just lost 3-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea fell 1-0 to Newcastle, with Anthony Gordon scoring the only goal, leaving Chelsea in fifth place but vulnerable to being surpassed by Liverpool, who will face struggling Tottenham on Sunday.
Burnley faces relegation threat
Burnley is facing challenges in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth. They remain in second to last place and are now eight points adrift from safety with eight games left in the season.
Burnley has managed to win only four out of 30 league matches so far.
Brighton’s strange victory
Sunderland, another team newly promoted this season, seems safe from relegation but is struggling with another home defeat, this time a 1-0 loss to Brighton.
The only goal was unusual, as Yankuba Minteh’s cross unexpectedly found the net at the near post in the 58th minute.
Sunderland had previously been unbeaten at home until a loss to Liverpool on February 11, but they have since lost to Fulham and Brighton.
