Tottenham Hotspur Ready to Retain Joao Palhinha with Renegotiation
Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to keep Joao Palhinha at the club beyond the season if they can renegotiate his deal. They have an option to sign the player permanently for £25 million at the end of the season, having also paid a sizeable loan fee for him. The Portuguese international has performed reasonably well since joining the club, making the prospect of retaining him an appealing proposition.
Spurs Keen to Retain Joao Palhinha
Pete O’Rourke told: “Right now, Palhinha’s future remains uncertain. It probably will depend on whether Spurs can secure Premier League safety.
“They do have an option in there to sign him on a permanent basis from Bayern Munich as part of that loan deal.
“I think they paid a decent loan fee with that option (to buy) in there for around £25million. So for Spurs, if they can renegotiate that and get it on lower terms, it’s maybe a deal that they will be interested in.
“If Spurs stay up and they can renegotiate that buy option, then there’s a real opportunity that Palhinha could extend to stay.”
Palhinha Would Be a Useful Signing
Tottenham need more physicality and defensive steel in the middle of the park, and the Portuguese international would be a valuable option for them. He has been labelled as “very good” this season.
According to Football Insider, they are seeking to sign him for a more reasonable fee, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince Bayern Munich to lower their demands. The Portuguese international does not have a future at the German club, and it would be ideal for them to sell him permanently.
Meanwhile, the transfer will also depend on whether Tottenham can secure Premier League safety. It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season strongly and survive the relegation battle.
Palhinha will certainly hope to sort out his long-term future quickly, and a move to Spurs would be ideal for him. Returning to the German club makes no sense to him, as he’s unlikely to get opportunities with them next season.
