Tottenham to compete with Liverpool for Serie A defender
Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur has raised hopes among supporters, especially given the team’s precarious position in the league.
The 46-year-old takes charge of a Spurs squad that has not won a league game in 2026 and sits just one point above the relegation zone. De Zerbi’s first match will be against Sunderland on April 12.
Under a five-year contract with no relegation clause, De Zerbi is prepared to lead Tottenham even if they drop to the Championship. The club aims to avoid such a scenario while actively supporting their new manager in the transfer market.
Interest in Juventus defender Gleison Bremer
A report from Tuttomercatoweb indicates that Liverpool is in a strong position to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, surpassing Tottenham in the competition for the player’s signature.
Since joining Juventus from Torino in 2022, Bremer has been a key player, making 115 appearances and scoring 11 goals along with five assists. Despite an injury-affected season, he has still contributed significantly with three goals and three assists in 19 Serie A matches.
Concerns are growing among Juventus fans that Bremer may depart at the end of the season. While manager Luciano Spalletti considers him indispensable, the board may be tempted by a substantial offer this summer. Bremer’s contract runs until 2029, with a buyout clause of €54 million.
Liverpool’s interest makes sense as Ibrahima Konate is nearing the end of his contract, raising fears of losing him for free. Virgil van Dijk, approaching 35, has shown signs of decline this season, while Joe Gomez’s future is uncertain, potentially leading to a defensive shortfall for the Reds.
Bremer could provide valuable leadership and experience for Liverpool, excelling in the demanding Premier League. Tottenham could also benefit from his skills, especially with questions surrounding Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s futures.
However, without the promise of Premier League football next season, Tottenham may struggle to attract Bremer, putting Liverpool in a favorable position to sign the Juventus defender.
