Manchester United’s ownership situation continues to be a prominent topic as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have increased their involvement at Old Trafford. Supporters remain vigilant regarding developments related to the group’s football operations across Europe.

Pressure has mounted on INEOS from various segments of the fanbase this season, particularly regarding on-field and off-field decisions. This scrutiny intensified after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier in the campaign, despite Michael Carrick subsequently steering the club back into the Champions League qualification spots.

INEOS’s connection with French club OGC Nice also remains a point of interest, especially amid growing uncertainty about the Ligue 1 side’s long-term prospects.

A new concern has arisen in France following disciplinary measures taken ahead of one of Nice’s most significant matches of the season. The LFP, which functions similarly to Ligue 1’s FA, announced that Nice’s second-leg relegation playoff against AS Saint-Etienne will occur behind closed doors due to crowd disturbances during a recent draw against Metz.

This sanction follows incidents where supporters stormed the pitch after the scoreless tie. The league’s announcement also cited the use of pyrotechnics and property damage caused by home fans.

Nice found itself in the relegation playoff after unfavorable results elsewhere, notwithstanding their draw with Metz. They must now compete against Saint-Etienne over two legs to maintain their Ligue 1 status. The first leg will take place at Geoffroy-Guichard, followed by the crucial return fixture at the Allianz Riviera on Friday.

OGC Nice Set to Challenge Disciplinary Action

In response to the punishment, Nice has swiftly announced their intent to appeal. The French club shared a statement on their website: “While Geoffroy-Guichard is already expected to be sold out for the first leg of the playoff, the Allianz Riviera would then be sadly devoid of passion and support for the second leg.

“The club has decided to appeal this decision.”

This situation adds further unpredictability around Nice as reports suggest INEOS is considering a potential sale of the club. Investment bank Lazard is reportedly involved in overseeing the process, with several interested parties already in discussions.

Both European and American investors appear to be closely watching the developments, with one unidentified group from the United States reportedly taking concrete steps toward a possible takeover. This group recently visited Nice’s training facilities alongside Jean-Claude Blanc, a prominent figure within INEOS Sport.

As Manchester United fans keep a close eye on INEOS’s actions elsewhere, the developments surrounding Nice’s future will likely remain under scrutiny in the upcoming months.
