Lisandro Martinez received another red card in Manchester United‘s 2-1 defeat against Leeds United at Old Trafford.

In the 56th minute, the VAR intervened after Martinez was seen pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair, a move missed by referee Paul Tierney.

After reviewing the footage, Tierney issued a red card for “violent conduct,” a decision supported by the Premier League.

Reporter Steven Railston has reported on X that Manchester United is contemplating appealing the red card and the ensuing suspension.

As a result of the “violent conduct” ruling, Martinez now faces a three-match ban, meaning he will miss games against Chelsea, Brentford, and Liverpool.

This season, Martinez has already missed 16 games due to injury, representing half of United’s matches.

He only returned to play in late November 2025 after recovering from a torn ACL and then suffered a calf injury that kept him out in March 2026.

This situation adds to United’s challenges, as Harry Maguire is currently suspended for a red card against Bournemouth, and Matthijs de Ligt is sidelined with a long-term back injury.

With Martinez also out, manager Michael Carrick might have to rely on young centre-backs Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven to strengthen the defense as they aim for Champions League qualification.

With Martinez potentially missing half of United’s remaining fixtures, it is understandable why the club is considering an appeal.
