Sir Jim Ratcliffe Invests €4.5 Billion in New Petrochemical Facility Amid Controversy at Manchester United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is making headlines as he invests significantly to enhance operations at his company INEOS. Ratcliffe, the co-owner of Manchester United, has faced criticism for several unpopular decisions since taking the helm at the club.
During his time at Old Trafford, he has made cuts to the academy and has also implemented numerous job reductions.
At the stadium itself, Ratcliffe has reallocated general season ticket seating to prioritize hospitality options.
This move, announced for the upcoming season, has angered fans and has even increased the security measures surrounding Ratcliffe during matchdays.
In contrast, his recent decisions at INEOS appear to be well-received. The company recently unveiled plans to invest €4.5 billion in a state-of-the-art petrochemical facility in Antwerp.
On their official website, INEOS announced: “INEOS is investing €4.5 billion in a world-scale, state-of-the-art petrochemical facility in Antwerp that slashes carbon emissions by two thirds compared to the average cracker in Europe.
“The trillion Euro chemical industry is one of Europe’s largest and most important sectors.
“Whilst Europe witnesses a rising number of closures—200 in the last three years—and companies shift focus towards the US and China, INEOS is committing to Europe through the establishment of the only new cracker built on the continent in 30 years.
“The Project ONE cracker will be Europe’s most energy-efficient cracker for ethylene production, a crucial raw material for the entire European chemical industry. This will support various essential sectors including health and pharmaceuticals, food, clean water, technology and communications, energy, and defense.
“Without these chemicals, Europe cannot operate hospitals, feed its population, or manufacture armaments. This investment is vital for national security.
“Investments of this nature are crucial not only to help Europe achieve its CO2 emission reduction targets but also to strengthen European competitiveness and ensure the supply of strategically significant raw materials.”
As Sir Jim Ratcliffe makes strides with his company, Manchester United supporters are likely keeping an eye on any potential investments in the club. The upcoming summer transfer window could be a prime opportunity for strategic recruitment in key areas, such as midfield, to maintain competitiveness in the next season.
