Trabzonspor President Confirms Interest in Andre Onana Following Loan Spell

Trabzonspor’s president has confirmed that the club will pursue signing Andre Onana after his loan spell this summer. However, he acknowledged that the ultimate decision rests in the hands of the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Andre Onana: The State of Play This Summer

The Red Devils are ready to part ways with the goalkeeper in the upcoming months, having been impressed by Senne Lammens’ performances during his debut season.

Reports indicate that Onana may aim to revitalize his career at United in 2026/2027, yet INEOS executives remain firmly opposed to this possibility. Instead, they plan to sell him before the start of the penultimate season of his contract, although whether this will be to Trabzonspor is still uncertain.

United did not include any buy option or obligation when negotiating Onana’s loan to the Turkish side last year, meaning new discussions regarding a transfer fee will be necessary. The Reds paid £44 million to sign him from Inter Milan in July 2023.

How Onana is Faring in Turkey

During his time in the Super Lig so far, the 30-year-old has made 26 appearances, conceding 31 goals and maintaining six clean sheets. On Thursday, he delivered an outstanding performance, starting with a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Samsunspor in the Turkish Cup, followed by saving three penalties during the shootout.

This impressive display led Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan to express his desire to keep Onana. He stated to NTV Spor: “Onana’s career is already established. We like him. I’ve said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana’s.”
