Manchester United Players Advocate for Michael Carrick as Permanent Manager

Manchester United are preparing to make one of its most important decisions ahead of the new season.

With Champions League football secured, attention has shifted toward who their next permanent manager will be.

Discussions are now ongoing about who should take charge moving forward.

But inside the dressing room, the message appears to be loud and clear.

Several key figures, including Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, and Harry Maguire, have told club hierarchy they want Michael Carrick to be handed the job permanently, as reported by talkSPORT. That backing comes after a remarkable turnaround since Carrick stepped in on an interim basis earlier this year.

When Michael Carrick took charge in January, the team were sitting outside the top places in seventh and struggling for consistency.

Since then, results have dramatically improved, with the club climbing into third position. A decisive moment came in the recent 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, a result that confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League.

It was also another example of the progress made under Carrick’s guidance. Across his tenure so far, the team has won ten of their last fourteen Premier League matches, highlighting a clear upward trajectory. His impact has not gone unnoticed among the players.

During a recent training camp in Ireland, Amad Diallo openly praised the interim boss. “Obviously it’s not for us as a player to decide, but he’s been very great, he’s been doing so much for the team. He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. We think he’s the right man. We are really happy for what he is doing right now.”

That sentiment appears to be shared across the squad, strengthening Carrick’s position as the leading candidate to take over beyond the summer. Now, with results matching expectations and the dressing room fully behind him, the decision may be edging closer. If the hierarchy align with the players’ view, Carrick’s interim role could soon become permanent, completing a remarkable rise from caretaker to permanent manager at Old Trafford.
