Manchester United Aims for Champions League Spot Against Sunderland

Manchester United is set to face Sunderland this weekend as they strive to secure Champions League football for the upcoming season.

Currently positioned third in the league, The Red Devils need just three more points to clinch their spot for the 2025/26 campaign, marking a significant recovery from last year’s struggles.

United concluded the previous season in 15th place under Ruben Amorim, who struggled to rectify the poor start initiated by Erik ten Hag.

This season witnessed Amorim depart from Old Trafford in January, with Michael Carrick stepping in as caretaker manager and guiding The Red Devils to a top-four position.

The former United midfielder has effectively revitalized the club, optimizing performances from new signings like Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenia international has made a strong impact in his first season at Old Trafford, netting 12 goals and contributing one assist over 32 appearances.

However, The Sun recently reported uncertainty surrounding the striker’s availability for the match against Sunderland.

Benjamin Sesko Suffers Shin Injury Against Liverpool

During the match against Liverpool, Sesko collided with Ibrahima Konate, resulting in him being pushed off the pitch.

After scoring in the first half, Benjamin Sesko was substituted at halftime and observed limping heavily towards the dugout.

Following the match, Carrick stated: “He (Sesko) has been carrying a bit of a shin problem for some time, especially after being pushed into the hoarding.”

As a result, the club is currently evaluating the injury before determining whether he can make the trip to the Stadium of Light.

This incident adds to the concerns regarding injuries linked to the pitch perimeter at Old Trafford, with the club having announced in October 2025 that it would consider redesigning the area for improved safety.
