Tottenham Hotspur Engaged in Contract Negotiations with Luka Vušković

Luka Vušković is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur until June 30, 2030. Tottenham is in ongoing talks for a new, much-improved contract.

The club wants to reward his strong performances on loan at Hamburg, where he has impressed significantly and seen his market value rise sharply (reportedly to €60m on Transfermarkt).

The Boy Hotspur’s Substack understands that Director of Football Johan Lange has been involved in meetings which have included travel to Hamburg, to convince Vušković to ‘Keep it Tottenham’, amid increasing interest in the player.

Vušković has publicly noted his contract with Tottenham runs until 2030 and has teased a return to the club.

The truth of the matter is that the player signed an agreement in September 2023 with Hajduk Split for a transfer fee of around £11–12 million and interest in him is Barcelona/”>currently off the scale.

Spurs are looking to pull out the stops to fend off unwelcome advances.

Should they get relegated, it feels increasingly likely that the dream of seeing Vušković in a Spurs shirt will be anything more than a fantasy.

Money Would Be Tight in the Championship

If Tottenham Hotspur were to get relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2025-26 season, they would face a massive squad overhaul driven by finances, player ambition, and contract situations. Spurs are currently in a tight relegation battle, making this a real (if not yet confirmed) possibility.

Relegation would trigger a huge revenue drop — estimates range from £180-250m+ in the first year due to lost Premier League TV money, commercial deals, and match day income (despite strong stadium revenue). Parachute payments (£45/50m in year 1) help but won’t cover the gap.

Relegation would result in a disaster, causing loss of prestige, a significant financial hit, and a multi-year setback. However, a strong squad clear-out plus parachute money could set up a relatively competitive Championship side, though bouncing straight back is far from guaranteed given the wage reset.

A good environment for Luka Vušković? Perhaps not.
