Didier Deschamps is poised to incorporate emerging talent and exceptional performers as he finalizes France’s goalkeeping lineup for the upcoming World Cup.
Details: According to Onze Mondial, Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser, who has had an impressive season, will be part of the 26-man squad heading to the tournament. This decision marks one of the few surprises in a roster that will largely resemble the squad announced in March.
The primary focus has been on who will secure the third goalkeeper position, joining Mike Maignan and Brice Samba. Despite being called up in March, PSG’s Lucas Chevalier did not make the final squad for the North American World Cup.
Other candidates for the role included West Ham’s Alphonse Areola, who has seen limited playing time since January, and Jean Butez from Como. However, the final choice fell to Risser, who featured in 37 matches for Lens this season, recording 12 clean sheets and receiving his first call-up to the French national team.
