In a significant setback for the Japan national football team, winger Kaoru Mitoma will miss the upcoming World Cup due to an injury. The news was first reported by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on his social media platform, X.

Mitoma, 28, suffered a hamstring injury during the 36th round of the English Premier League match against Wolverhampton, where he was substituted in the 58th minute. Following a thorough medical examination, it was confirmed that he would not recover in time for the tournament.

This season, Mitoma has made 27 appearances for Brighton, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His exclusion from the World Cup lineup marks a significant loss for the Japanese squad.
