Tottenham Looks to Secure Premier League Status Against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur can secure their top-flight status on Tuesday with a win over Chelsea following West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday evening.

West Ham were beaten 3-1 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park, handing Spurs a significant boost in their survival bid. They hold a two-point lead over the 18th-placed Hammers, who needed a win to leapfrog Spurs. The Lilywhites now firmly have their fate in their own hands heading into the remaining two games of the season.

Tottenham heads to Stamford Bridge following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Leeds United last week. Roberto De Zerbi welcomed back James Maddison, who made his long-awaited return from ACL injury against Leeds, playing over 20 minutes. This marked the 29-year-old’s first competitive match since May 2025.

De Zerbi hopes to have more injured stars back in time for the season’s conclusion. He faces a significant selection decision ahead of his first London derby as Tottenham boss.

Tottenham Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Returns to Full Training

Guglielmo Vicario underwent hernia surgery in March, causing him to miss five matches. Spurs announced prior to the surgery that it had been deliberately scheduled for the international break and the absence of fixtures to minimize its impact. However, this has not been the case.

The Italian goalkeeper was expected to be available for the Leeds United game, but he missed it. Recently, pictures released by the club’s official X handle showed Vicario returning to training.

As a member of Spurs’ leadership group, his return would add significant value to De Zerbi’s squad as they aim to avoid relegation. With the No.1 back in training, De Zerbi faces a crucial decision on whether to start with Antonin Kinsky or reintegrate the Italian international into the first team. Notably, there are reports that Vicario is linked to an exit from the club after this season.
