Manchester United‘s influence is resounding in international football as academy-developed talents continue to emerge at both club and national levels.

This season, under the guidance of Michael Carrick, United’s youth pathway has gained visibility, with numerous young players frequently training alongside the first team.

That trend is extending to the international arena, with Scotland set to integrate several promising prospects into their senior squad during an upcoming training camp.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has named four standout players to join the senior squad at Lesser Hampden next week, as part of a broader evaluation process ahead of future fixtures, which he announced on their website.

Tyler Fletcher Called Up to Scotland Squad

Among those called up is Manchester United midfielder Tyler Fletcher, whose impressive trajectory at Old Trafford has made him one of Scotland’s most watched young midfielders.

Fletcher officially joined Manchester United from Manchester City in 2023, alongside his twin brother, Jack, in a combined transfer valued at £1.25 million. He signed his first professional contract in 2024 and has progressed through the Under-21 ranks.

In the past year, his growth has accelerated significantly, with a senior debut occurring in a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. This marked his inaugural appearance for the Manchester United first team.

Since then, he has become a regular presence in Carrick’s senior training group while making a mark in Premier League 2, where he has contributed three assists this season and has been recognized as Manchester United’s Reserve-Team Player of the Year.

His club achievements have paved the way for international recognition, as he was previously called up to Scotland’s Under-17s for European Championship qualifying matches against Czechia and Portugal, highlighting his long-term significance to the national team.

Joining Fletcher in the senior Scotland training group are several other emerging talents, including Heart of Midlothian striker James Wilson, who has already made his senior international debut and became Scotland’s youngest-ever men’s international at the age of 18 years and 17 days.

Wilson recently returned from a loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur and is still seen as one of the most promising attacking prospects in the Scottish football landscape.

Also included is Dundee defender Luke Graham, who has enjoyed a standout season, claiming both Young Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at his club after solidifying his place in the Premiership.

Goalkeeper Liam McFarlane, currently with the Scotland Under-21s, has also received a training call-up after an impressive loan spell with Alloa Athletic. Clarke confirmed he will remain with the squad and travel to the United States as an additional training option.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is also part of Steve Clarke’s broader 2026 World Cup plans, illustrating the ongoing presence of United-linked players within the Scotland setup.

Clarke elaborated on the reasoning behind these inclusions, explaining that players will arrive in stages based on their club commitments, thus allowing for younger players to be evaluated more thoroughly in a senior environment.

“When I announced the squad, I mentioned a few young players joining us for training at Lesser Hampden. It’s beneficial for us, as it enhances our training numbers, given the staggered arrivals of those still engaged domestically. It also gives us a chance to assess some boys who are on our radar more closely,” he said.

“This experience should be very positive for the players, providing insight into what we seek in a senior squad environment, alongside top professionals.”

For Tyler Fletcher, this call-up marks another significant milestone in a rapidly advancing career, as his progress at Manchester United aligns with increasing trust at the international stage, establishing him as one of Scotland’s most exciting midfield prospects for the future.
