Benni McCarthy, South Africa’s football icon, has taken the helm of the Kenyan National Team. This announcement comes as the draw for the Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers took place today in Egypt.

In the upcoming tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, South Africa will be facing Kenya in Group D. The event is set for next June, and stadium inspections are currently ongoing to ensure readiness.

There had been concerns regarding the ability of the three nations to host this prestigious biennial tournament; however, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed its commitment to keeping the event in these neighboring countries.

As McCarthy leads the Kenyan side, expectations are high for a strong performance from the Harambee Stars, particularly since he is the nation’s all-time top scorer with 32 goals. The Group D lineup is rounded out by Eritrea and Guinea, making for an intriguing competition ahead.
