Egypt’s national football team coach Hossam Hassan has voiced his strong belief that the Pharaohs are poised to overcome their historical challenges at the FIFA World Cup as they prepare for the 2026 edition of the tournament.
Historically, Egypt has excelled in the Africa Cup of Nations, securing an unprecedented seven titles, making them the most successful nation in the tournament’s history. However, their World Cup performance has been less distinguished, with the Pharaohs having limited participation in the global event. Hassan aims to change this narrative with a new generation of players.
“We have seven AFCONs under our belt, no African squad has ever managed to achieve this until now,” Hassan told journalists in his pre-match news conference on Sunday.
“Of course, maybe we’ve had some negative perceptions [outside Africa] as we’ve only participated four times at the World Cup.
“We haven’t been showing up as frequently as other teams, but now we have a generation who belong on this stage.”
