Antonin Kinsky Shines in Goal for Tottenham Amid Transfer Speculation

Tottenham Hotspur is likely to see significant changes in its squad next season, regardless of the division they compete in. Several players may leave, including first-choice center-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who have attracted interest from top European clubs. Additionally, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been rumored to be on his way to Inter Milan.

Roberto De Zerbi recently expressed his support for Vicario, insisting that the Italian international remains his No.1, despite Antonin Kinsky stepping up impressively in Vicario’s absence due to injury. Since undergoing groin surgery in mid-March, Vicario has missed the last few months, allowing Kinsky to start every match for Tottenham. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has revitalized his career under De Zerbi’s guidance, overcoming a difficult Champions League debut against Atletico Madrid, where he received a low rating.

Tottenham Expected to Promote Antonin Kinsky to No.1

Kinsky’s form has been exceptional in recent matches, earning vital points for Tottenham. Notably, he made a crucial point-blank save to deny a shot from Sean Longstaff, which helped secure a 1-1 draw against Leeds United. Additionally, a spectacular last-minute save from a free-kick by Joao Gomes contributed to Tottenham’s first league win of 2026 against Wolves.

As speculation grows around Vicario’s departure, respected Spurs podcast owner John Wenham has suggested that Tottenham might not invest heavily in a new goalkeeper and could instead promote Kinsky to the starting role next season. “On Kinsky, he has done very well since coming into the side; just two months ago, he faced criticism following a tough night in Madrid,” he stated. “His comeback deserves a lot of credit, especially since he’s been doing so well in Vicario’s place.”

Wenham continued, noting Kinsky’s impressive performances, which may earn him accolades for Save of the Season. He also mentioned that although there are rumors about Tottenham pursuing James Trafford in the summer, he believes it would be beneficial to keep Kinsky as the club’s number one, provided he maintains his form against upcoming opponents.

Kinsky Earns His Chance as Tottenham’s No.1

Since joining Spurs from Slavia Praha in January 2025, Kinsky has navigated various challenges in his early career with the club but has shown resilience. His determination and hard work are beginning to pay off, allowing him to regain his footing at Tottenham.

As Tottenham prepares to make several changes after a challenging season, De Zerbi could save valuable resources by trusting Kinsky as his starting goalkeeper instead of spending on a new one. These funds could be better allocated to strengthen other crucial areas of the team. Ultimately, Kinsky has demonstrated he can be a reliable presence in goal, making it a potentially sound decision for Tottenham to retain him as their first-choice keeper for the 2026/27 season.
