Canada’s Alphonso Davies Out for Several Weeks Due to Hamstring Injury
With the World Cup approaching this summer, Canada captain Alphonso Davies faces several weeks on the sidelines due to a left hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old left-back, who plays for Bayern Munich, sustained the injury during a Champions League semifinal match against Paris Saint-Germain, as confirmed by the Bundesliga club on Friday.
Canada Soccer has stated that it will maintain close communication with both Davies and Bayern’s medical team in Germany.
“Our focus is supporting his recovery and providing every available resource, including specialized soft tissue expertise, to give him the best possible pathway back to full fitness ahead of the FIFA World Cup,” Canada Soccer said in a statement.
Davies has contributed significantly to the Canadian national team, scoring 15 goals in 58 appearances, including the country’s first-ever goal at a World Cup during the 2022 tournament in Qatar. He has also been recognized as the Concacaf Player of the Year twice, in 2021 and 2022.
As co-hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Canada is placed in Group B, set to kick off its campaign on June 12 in Toronto against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The team will also face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24, with both matches held in Vancouver.
