Antony Shines for Real Betis, Sparks Discussions on Past at Manchester United

Manchester United has witnessed several former players and loanees making headlines away from Old Trafford in recent months. Ruben Amorim was sacked by the club back in January following a difficult spell in charge. Multiple players who left Manchester United have also continued rebuilding their reputations elsewhere. Not long ago, Alejandro Garnacho also appeared to aim a subtle dig at United ahead of a Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal.

Now, another former United winger has raised eyebrows with his latest comments in Spain. Antony has continued his impressive form for Real Betis after matching one of Kylian Mbappe’s standout La Liga statistics this season. The Brazilian winger has now scored five goals from outside the box in La Liga this campaign, equalling the Real Madrid star’s tally. The latest strike came during Betis’ 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad.

After the game, GOAL reported that Antony spoke to DAZN, where some supporters interpreted parts of his comments as a subtle swipe at his time at Manchester United. “I owe much of that to my teammates too, and to the coach who has given me a lot of confidence,” Antony said.

The Brazilian also described the current campaign as the “best season” of his career. “First, happy for the season I am having. It is the best season. I feel very happy, proud,” he added. Antony officially joined Real Betis last summer following a successful loan spell in Spain after struggling for consistency at Old Trafford.

Since moving back to La Liga permanently, the winger has looked far more confident and productive in attacking areas. His resurgence has become one of the more surprising stories involving former Manchester United players this season. While Antony did not directly mention United in his latest interview, references to confidence and coaching support are likely to spark discussion among supporters given his difficult spell in England.
