A managerial change is set to happen on the south coast.

As clubs start preparing for the new season, one name is making headlines.

Andoni Iraola will leave AFC Bournemouth when his contract ends at the season’s conclusion, as announced on the club’s website.

The Spaniard joined in 2023 on a two-year deal and extended it in 2024. He is leaving after successfully boosting Bournemouth’s standing in the Premier League.

Despite 15 months of talks, Bournemouth could not persuade Iraola to stay. However, club sources suggest they respect his choice and maintain a good relationship with him.

Focus has now shifted to finding his replacement, and Kieran McKenna is a key contender.

As reported by The Athletic, the current Ipswich Town manager is a top candidate, and Bournemouth is already planning to approach him.

McKenna has emerged as a notable young manager in English football, leading Ipswich into promotion contention and receiving much acclaim.

The team’s current position reinforces his case.

Ipswich is currently second in the EFL Championship, just 10 points behind Coventry City in first place, but with two games in hand, making the promotion battle very much alive.

This connection is particularly interesting for United fans, as McKenna has strong ties to Old Trafford.

The Northern Irishman joined Manchester United‘s coaching staff under Jose Mourinho in 2016, initially working with the academy before moving up quickly.

He later became a first-team coach and worked with both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

During his time at United, McKenna was highly respected for his tactical knowledge, detailed coaching methods, and ability to develop younger players.

He contributed to the growth of several academy players and was viewed as one of the top coaching talents at the club before leaving in 2021 for his first managerial role at Ipswich.

Since then, his reputation has soared.

At Portman Road, McKenna has turned Ipswich into a well-organized, attacking team, earning promotion from League One and positioning them for a potential return to the Premier League.

While Ipswich wants to keep their manager, his contract has a release clause, which could allow Bournemouth to pursue him.

Although McKenna is a leading candidate, other options are also being evaluated as the club aims to make a prompt decision.

For Bournemouth, finding a replacement for Iraola will be challenging.

With summer approaching, this is shaping up to be a captivating managerial situation.
