Brandi Chastain Reflects on Her Journey from Soccer Legend to Golf Investor
American soccer icon Brandi Chastain has increasingly become associated with golf over the years. Let’s find out how it all started for her.
With two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles and Olympic gold medals, Chastain is a legend in her sport. However, that has not stopped her from entering the world of golf.
“My grandfather loved golf, and I loved being with my grandfather. He would take me to lunch at the local driving range in South San Jose [Calif.], and for me to get lunch, I had to hit balls first. So, that’s what I did. We never played the course, though. Isn’t that funny?” said Chastain.
Chastain further revealed that she did not play much golf during college. However, after making a name for herself in soccer and turning professional, she found herself enjoying the sport more.
For the former national team player, golf became a good test of her mental strength while also not being physically strenuous.
“Oh, gosh, it doesn’t even exist anymore. I don’t even know the name. It was a driving range with an executive short course. It had great club sandwiches, and my grandfather loved it,” Chastain added.
Although the golf course no longer exists, it marked the beginning of Chastain’s long relationship with golf.
In the Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL), Chastain has become a prominent investor.
Chastain’s Investments in TGL
The 57-year-old has been involved with TMRW Sports, the company that launched the league.
On top of that, Chastain holds a minority stake in The Bay Golf Club.
“I think what I love about TGL is I’m seeing these very polished professionals who, when they’re on the PGA Tour, must be aware of traditions and etiquette. In TGL, they’re asked to be relaxed and be themselves. There’s some that are really good at it, and some that are really struggling. So, I think it’s going to bring out more personality. We’ll have some fun. I think everybody can relate to that,” Chastain said.
Chastain also mentioned that TGL would make golf more accessible with its shorter time format and comparatively lower price range.
