Manchester United is experiencing a strong finish to the season, shining a spotlight on several players as the team’s performance under Michael Carrick improves, reflecting in both their league position and individual accolades.

The Reds now sit in third place following a remarkable turnaround since January, where key midfield performances played a crucial role in this progress.

One player, in particular, has been instrumental in United’s successful campaign in the Premier League this season.

Bruno Fernandes Nominated for Player of the Season Award

Bruno Fernandes has officially been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award for 2025/26, as announced on the Premier League website.

The United captain has delivered another exceptional campaign, remaining a leading contender after playing a key role in the team’s return to Champions League qualification.

His influence extends beyond goals, as his creativity has been pivotal throughout the season.

Currently, Fernandes boasts 8 league goals and 19 assists, just one short of equalling the Premier League’s single-season assist record.

This record is held jointly by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

The Portuguese midfielder has already etched his name into the club’s history this season.

He has surpassed David Beckham’s Manchester United assist record, further solidifying his legacy at Old Trafford.

His performance has remained steady, even during tougher periods earlier in the campaign.

Since Carrick’s appointment, Fernandes has become increasingly influential, steering the team through the season’s climax.

He will also aim to carry this momentum into the World Cup with Portugal this summer.

The Player of the Season nomination adds to a growing list of accolades for Fernandes this season.

He recently received the Football Writers’ award for his impressive performances throughout the campaign.

Moreover, he has been nominated for the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month for April, alongside teammate Casemiro.

Discussions about a contract extension are also expected soon, as United looks to finalize new deals for Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo.

Bruno Fernandes is up against seven other nominees for the award.

This shortlist includes David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Igor Thiago.

The last United player to receive the accolade was Nemanja Vidic during the 2010/11 season.

This period saw five consecutive winners from Old Trafford, including legendary players Ronaldo, Rooney, and Vidic himself.

Previous winners from the club also include notable figures like Peter Schmeichel, Dwight Yorke, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

With two matches remaining, Fernandes still has the opportunity to chase another record and potentially secure a major individual award for Manchester United.
