Celtic Eyes Calum Ward as Competition Grows
If a recent transfer update from Sky Sports reporter Christopher Reidy is to be believed, Celtic are monitoring Calum Ward ahead of a potential summer transfer. However, they are not the only ones interested, as Wycombe Wanderers and Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok are also keeping an eye on the Motherwell goalkeeper.
The 25-year-old English goalkeeper progressed through Bournemouth’s academy but did not make an appearance for the senior team. Instead, he had several loan spells in non-league football with Totton & Eling, Bashley, Thatcham Town, and Weymouth, before moving to Finland to join Veikkausliiga side HIFK. His initial loan there became a permanent deal in April 2021.
Ward later signed with fellow Finnish club AC Oulu for the 2022 season. His impressive performances in goal led him to join Motherwell in February 2025. Although he served as a backup to Aston Oxborough, Ellery Balcombe, and Archie Mair during the latter half of the 2024-25 season, the arrival of Jens Berthel Askou as the new manager in the summer altered his circumstances significantly.
