Chelsea Football Club has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Xabi Alonso to appoint him as the new head coach. According to Fabrice Hawkins, the agreement covers a long-term contract, set to last for a minimum of two years.

The 43-year-old Spaniard is viewed by the London club as a key figure to stabilize the current situation and help usher in a new era for the team. Alonso will also be granted significant influence over squad building, including a proactive role in the club’s transfer strategy for the upcoming summer window.

To summarize the recent managerial changes, Liam Rosenior departed in April, leading to Callum MacFarlane’s appointment as interim manager. Rosenior himself had replaced Enzo Maresca, who left the club in early January.

Following the conclusion of the current season and the FA Cup final, it is anticipated that the administrative processes for Alonso’s appointment will accelerate, with an official announcement expected shortly thereafter.
