Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s business model is simple, to carry the legacy of Roman Abramovich forward. Can’t say that the Russian multi-millionaire businessman would agree on all of the signings and the contract situation but it’s Boehly’s model and he seems to have a plan and a template for these signings.

Almost all the signings made under his reign have been big tenure signings with some contracts even extending more than 2030. This allows the payments and player fees to be paid in installments over the years.
Many have criticised this as it has a downside as well, if a player doesn’t work out with the team plans, the club is bound to keep him until the end of his contract. Though nowadays the contracts come with special release clauses but every player won’t be able to attract clubs who are willing to pay the release clause.
Chelsea now have 89 pro players under their contract and are in no mood to slow down

They have recently signed the duo of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP for €74m. Quenda will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026 and Essugo will join the team from next season.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez alone cost them 236 million euros
Since Boehly’s arrival at the club in May 2022, Chelsea have splurged big money in transfer windows. Chelsea’s midfield pivot of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez alone cost them about 236 million euros. Some decent money was also dropped for talents like Cole Palmer who has been a generational revelation since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s strategy is simple, to buy players at a lower price when they are young and sell them or loan them for profit.
Until now this strategy is working for the blues but it can be a double edged sword as well which can ruin an institution like Chelsea.
