Aveiro conceded that the Portuguese national team’s performance was lackluster, yet she defended her brother amidst the criticism directed at him. In her Instagram post, she expressed disappointment in the team’s overall strategy and hinted at the peculiar dynamics of the tournament.
“The Portuguese national team was a complete DISAPPOINTMENT. The team suddenly forgot how to pass, win the ball, or counterattack. The entire game was played from midfield back to defense.
Obviously, they will ONLY blame one person [Ronaldo]. What a shame… Fortunately, he’s got broad shoulders. And anyone who understands football can see the obvious. This World Cup is strange, really strange…” Katia wrote on her Instagram page.
