Tottenham Secures Survival in EPL as Vuskovic Prepares for World Cup

Tottenham Hotspur has concluded their 2025-26 season without any players heading to this year’s World Cup in the United States, largely due to an underwhelming season. However, there is a silver lining as Luka Vuskovic will represent Croatia in the upcoming tournament.

Vuskovic Set for World Cup Journey

Despite spending the recently concluded season on loan with Hamburger in the Bundesliga, Tottenham stands to benefit financially while Vuskovic participates in the World Cup this summer. According to a report from Hamburger Abendblatt, FIFA provides compensation payments tied to players who participate in international duty, and Tottenham will receive a payment for each day Croatia remains in the tournament.

FIFA compensates clubs approximately $11,000 per day for each player released for international duty, with payments distributed based on a player’s contractual history. Vuskovic is amongst the few players from Spurs heading to the World Cup, offering Tottenham a much-needed financial boost.

Financial Gains from Vuskovic’s World Cup Participation

The compensation structure from FIFA divides the daily payment into three parts: one third goes to the club where the player is under contract during the tournament, a second third to the club where the player played during the 2025-26 season, and the final third to the club from the previous season, 2024-25.

Since Vuskovic’s loan with Hamburger ends in June, he will officially return to Tottenham on July 1, coinciding with the World Cup. This timing ensures that Tottenham retains his contract while the tournament occurs, allowing the club to claim a share of the daily payments alongside Hamburger. The final payment portion will benefit KVC Westerlo, the club he played for in the 2024-25 season, while Hajduk Split may also receive a share for their role in his development.

While the situation surrounding his potential departure this summer remains intricate, a guaranteed portion of the compensation will go to Tottenham, irrespective of where Vuskovic ends up. His continued presence at the club seems likely at this point, particularly as Micky van de Ven is linked with a move away from N17, providing Vuskovic with an opportunity for regular first-team minutes.
