Tahith Chong to Represent Curacao in First World Cup Appearance
Manchester United continues to see recognition for both current and former players ahead of the 2026 World Cup this summer.
National teams around the world are beginning to announce their final squads for the tournament.
Recently, Ivory Coast confirmed the inclusion of Amad Diallo in their squad.
Belgium also officially called up Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Additionally, a former United player has secured his spot on football’s grandest stage. Curacao has officially announced their squad after qualifying for the competition for the first time in history. This announcement was made via the nation’s official Instagram page.
Included in the squad is former Manchester United winger Tahith Chong. The 26-year-old progressed through United’s academy after joining from Feyenoord in 2016 and was highly regarded during his time at Carrington.
Chong won both the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award and the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award while developing at the club. He made five senior appearances for the Red Devils before departing permanently in 2022.
Since then, Tahith Chong has worked to rebuild his career through spells at Birmingham City, Luton Town, and Sheffield United, who officially signed him last summer after he joined their ranks.
Curacao’s historic qualification has garnered considerable attention. With a population of approximately 156,000, they are set to become one of the smallest nations to ever compete at a FIFA World Cup.
For Chong, this call-up represents a significant milestone, following his switch of international allegiance from the Netherlands to Curacao in 2025. He previously represented the Netherlands at several youth levels before making this change.
Now, the former Manchester United winger is ready to take on the challenge of representing Curacao on the most prominent stage in world football this summer.
