Curaçao’s national football team has made history by being recognized as the smallest country by population to reach the final stage of the FIFA World Cup, a milestone now officially acknowledged by Guinness World Records. This Caribbean nation achieved this accomplishment with a population of only 156,115 at the time of their qualification.

Details: The Curaçao Football Federation has received formal certification from Guinness for this extraordinary feat. Previously, Iceland held this record after qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with a population of approximately 334,000, marking a significant achievement that Curaçao has now surpassed by more than half.

In their inaugural match, however, Curaçao faced a challenging competition against Germany, suffering a substantial 1-7 defeat. Despite the setback, the team’s historic qualification remains a significant achievement in the world of football.
