England Prepares for World Cup Amid High Hopes and Expectations
Supporters have seen talented teams fall short before, so every confident claim still comes with caution.
Harry Kane, though, is not hiding from the favourites tag after another outstanding season with Bayern Munich.

Speaking to the Press Association, Kane said England’s squad is “as good as we’ve ever had” as Thomas Tuchel prepares for the World Cup roster announcement.
“I think when you look at the starting XI, you look at the players coming off the bench, we’re going into the tournament as one of the favourites,” the 32-year-old striker said.
“We’ve been building together as a team over the past few camps under Thomas. I think we’ve set the standard, and now we look forward to continuing this into the World Cup next month.”
Kane’s confidence is backed by his own form. The Bayern striker recorded 58 goals and seven assists in 50 games across all club competitions.
That gives England an elite focal point, but the contrast is obvious. England have had star power before, and World Cups have still ended painfully.
Thomas Tuchel Still Has Major Squad Calls to Make
Tuchel is set to reveal England’s World Cup squad next Friday, 22 May, with several places still open.
According to Sky Sports, only 16 players are considered secure, leaving serious competition across the final spots.
Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Eberechi Eze are among the attacking talents fighting for roles in a crowded creative group.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to miss out, underlining how ruthless Tuchel’s final decisions may become.
Kane sees England as favourites, but the squad announcement will show how bold Tuchel is prepared to be.
