Toby Collyer Aims for First Team Spot at Manchester United
Toby Collyer has expressed his ambition to secure a place in Manchester United’s first team. The promising midfielder has had two loan spells this season, both of which were unfortunately cut short due to extended injury issues.
Collyer initially joined West Bromwich Albion in August 2025, seeking valuable senior experience in the Championship. He made 12 appearances for the club before his loan ended prematurely in November due to a calf injury.
Despite being fit for part of his time at West Brom, the 22-year-old only managed three starts and totaled 253 minutes on the pitch.
How Collyer Fared in the Second Half of 2025/2026
Following his recovery over Christmas, Collyer agreed to join Hull City on loan from January until the end of the season. The England U20 international, praised as ‘excellent’ by Rio Ferdinand, played five matches for the Tigers, making one start and accumulating 104 minutes on the field. Unfortunately, during a training session in mid-April, he twisted his ankle after colliding with goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, ending another disappointing loan spell.
Collyer Voices Hopes of Staying at United
It remains uncertain what Manchester United’s decision will be regarding Collyer, who joined from Brighton and Hove Albion’s academy in 2022. His contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027, with the board having the option to extend it for an additional year.
Having made 13 senior appearances since his debut in August 2024, Collyer is determined to prove himself at United. “Everyone wants to play for Manchester United,” the Carrington graduate told Andy Mitten, via The Athletic. “That’s my main goal, but if not, just playing in the Premier League as an established player.”
