Arne Slot Faces Mounting Pressure Amid Ajax Interest
Arne Slot has seen increased scrutiny over his future in recent weeks. Pressure has continued to mount despite his side’s Premier League triumph last season.
Liverpool/”>Manchester United beat Slot’s Liverpool 3-2 yesterday to complete a league double over them. It was a result that has only intensified the spotlight on the Dutch manager.
There have already been questions around key decisions during his tenure, including Slot reportedly turning down the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte before he joined Manchester United.
With United improving rapidly since sacking Ruben Amorim in January, the contrast in form has added to the pressure surrounding Slot’s position. Amid that backdrop, fresh developments have emerged regarding interest from abroad.
According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, speaking on the Kick-Off podcast via De Telegraaf, former Manchester United midfielder Jordi Cruyff has held talks in an attempt to bring Slot to Ajax. He spent time at Old Trafford during his playing career in the 1990s.
Cruyff, who has since moved into executive and sporting roles, is understood to have explored the possibility of appointing Slot as Ajax’s new head coach as the club considers their next managerial move.
However, the approach has not progressed further. Verweij reports that Slot ultimately rejected the opportunity, choosing to remain in his current role despite the growing external noise and speculation around his future.
The involvement of Jordi Cruyff highlights Ajax’s intent to make a significant appointment. They targeted a manager with a strong reputation for attacking football and development. Slot’s profile fits that vision, particularly given his success in the Dutch Eredivisie prior to his current role.
For now, though, Slot remains focused on his current job, even as pressure continues to build. With interest from a club of Ajax’s stature now confirmed, his situation could remain one to watch as the summer approaches.
