FIFA World Cup 2026 Gears Up as Danny Higginbotham Joins FOX Sports Coverage Team

Excitement is beginning to build ahead of the biggest international tournament in football, with anticipation rising as the countdown continues.

With just weeks to go, preparations across teams, broadcasters and host nations are entering their final stages.

The expanded format and global scale of the upcoming FIFA World Cup are expected to make it one of the most closely followed sporting events in history.

Attention is not only on the players set to take the pitch, but also on the voices and personalities who will bring the action to life.

Broadcast line-ups are now being finalized, revealing a strong presence of figures with ties to Manchester United.

Among them is Danny Higginbotham, who is set to take on a new role at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The former defender has been confirmed as part of FOX Sports’ coverage team, as announced on their website, marking his debut with the network as a match analyst.

He will be involved in commentary duties as part of one of nine dedicated teams traveling across North America to cover the tournament on location.

The competition itself is set to run from June 11 to July 19, featuring a record-breaking 48 teams competing across 104 matches.

For the first time, the tournament will be jointly hosted by three nations, the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with games spread across 16 cities.

Higginbotham’s inclusion adds another United-linked name to the broadcast setup, continuing a growing trend.

His journey in the game began in the academy system at Manchester United back in 1997, laying the foundation for a long professional career.

Over the years, he went on to make more than 400 appearances, including over 200 in the Premier League.

His playing days saw him represent several clubs, including Derby County, Southampton, Stoke City, and Sunderland.

At the highest level, he featured in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, while also reaching two FA Cup finals during his career.

Internationally, he later represented the Gibraltar national football team, adding another layer to his experience in the game.

His move into broadcasting now places him on one of football’s biggest stages, offering insight shaped by two decades in professional football.

He is not the only familiar name making the transition from Old Trafford ties to the studio.

Javier Hernandez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have also been confirmed as part of FOX Sports’ coverage team.

That growing list highlights the lasting influence of former United figures across different areas of the game.

As the tournament approaches, their presence will add both familiarity and credibility to the viewing experience.

For Danny Higginbotham, though, this represents a fresh chapter, one that brings his connection to United full circle on the global stage.
