Arrived at Sylhet airport to a hero’s welcome
Hamza Choudhury arrived at Sylhet airport to a hero’s welcome, marking a significant moment in Bangladesh football history. Excited fans and media personnel gathered in large numbers to witness his arrival as he prepares to make his much-anticipated debut for Bangladesh.
He played the entire ninety minutes in Sunday night’s Sheffield Derby against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship (England’s second division) before departing for Bangladesh. Rhian Brewster scored the game-winning goal as Sheffield United won 1-0.

Along with his mother, Rafia Dewan Choudhury, his wife, Olivia Choudhury, their three kids, and two siblings, Hamza arrived in Bangladesh. Three weeks prior, his father, Dewan Murshid Choudhury, had come to make the preparations for his son’s return home.
“Hopefully, we will win and progress.”
“It feels incredible. My heart is pumped. Amazing, amazing. (It has been) a long time coming. Excited to be here,” Hamza Choudhury told reporters at the airport. “I have spoken with Coach Javier about many things. Hopefully, we will win and progress.”
The defensive midfielder formerly played for England’s under-21 team, but he has now chosen to play for the motherland. On Tuesday night, Hamza, the first player from the Premier League to play for the Bengal Tigers, joined the rest of the team. On March 20, the team is scheduled to take a flight to India for the AFC Asian Cup third round qualifier fixture.
