The Eagles of Carthage faced another defeat in Group F on June 21 during the World Cup taking place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This match marked a challenging start for the Tunisian team, who have struggled in their initial games.
Tunisia’s manager, Hervé Renard, expressed his disappointment following the match. Appointed just a few days prior, Renard acknowledged the superiority of their opponents while emphasizing the need for improvement and resilience from his players.
With Tunisia’s chances of advancing now seemingly impossible, Renard urged his team to demonstrate character in their remaining matches. He stated, “We were too loose defensively. The players tried their best and didn’t give up. But we were beaten by a team that is far superior to us. We need to hang in there during these difficult times. It’s going to take pride to play the third match to the best of our ability.”
Hervé Renard took over as Tunisia’s manager on June 15, following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi after a heavy 5–1 loss to Sweden.
