Tottenham Hotspur Eyes Safety in Premier League as Relegation Battle Intensifies

With West Ham’s 3-1 loss to Newcastle today, Tottenham Hotspur has a crucial opportunity to avoid a shocking relegation in modern English soccer history.

Currently, Tottenham sits at 38 points, just two points above the final relegation spot.

They are set to face Chelsea on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for their 37th match of the season. Here’s what they need to secure their place in England’s top flight for another year.

It’s simple: a win or draw will keep Tottenham up and relegate West Ham. A loss, however, complicates matters; detailed outcomes are outlined below.

If Tottenham wins, they will go five points clear of West Ham, solidifying their spot in the Premier League with one match week remaining.

If they draw, they will move three points clear, and since they hold the tiebreaker over West Ham on goal difference, this result will also secure their place for the next season.

Conversely, if they lose, West Ham will be only two points behind Tottenham, making the relegation battle extend to the final match week of the season. Here’s how that scenario unfolds.

Similar to match week 37, if Tottenham can secure a win or draw, they’ll stay up. However, if Tottenham loses against Everton on Sunday, a West Ham win against Leeds United, also on Sunday, will drop Tottenham to 18th place, taking the final relegation spot.

Both Tottenham and West Ham are scheduled to play at 11 a.m. EST.
