Ivory Coast Includes Amad Diallo in Squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

International tournaments often serve as pivotal moments for young players, particularly when club responsibilities and national-team commitments converge at the elite level. For Manchester United, the 2025/26 season has already witnessed several squad members balancing intense domestic duties with increasing international expectations as a major global competition approaches.

The Ivory Coast national football team has officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, after clinching the top spot in their qualifying group ahead of Gabon. Amad Diallo has been included in the squad, as confirmed on the team’s Instagram account. This marks the national team’s return to the World Cup after a 12-year absence, with an aim to advance beyond the group stage for the first time in their history.

Coached by Emerse Fae, the team has been drawn into a challenging group featuring Ecuador, Germany, and Curacao. Despite the achievement of qualification, the Ivory Coast faces an uphill battle, arriving at the World Cup still adjusting after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of AFCON 2025 by Egypt.

Amad Diallo is expected to be one of the main attacking threats for Ivory Coast during the tournament. The Manchester United winger has emerged as a vital player for both his club and country, utilizing his speed, creativity, and direct dribbling abilities to unsettle defenses. Diallo’s impressive AFCON performance included three goals in three starts, establishing him as one of the standout players in his nation’s campaign.

His continued success has raised expectations that he could make a significant impact on the world stage this summer. In club competitions, Diallo has contributed two goals and three assists, solidifying his role in Manchester United’s attacking lineup this season.

His development has prospered under interim manager Michael Carrick, although he has experienced a slight dip in form since returning from AFCON. Nonetheless, he has publicly expressed support for Carrick to retain the managerial position permanently, demonstrating strong confidence in the current coaching setup at Old Trafford. The broader squad transition under Carrick has also allowed Amad to take on more advanced and expressive roles, particularly on the flanks.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Amad has the opportunity to transform his club development into international success. Ivory Coast is counting on his creativity and goal-scoring confidence to help push them into the knockout rounds for the first time.
