Jonny Evans Returns to Training with Manchester United After Retirement
Jonny Evans was, arguably, a very accomplished and successful Manchester United player across his two spells at Old Trafford.
The first of these, coming between 2006 and 2015, saw the defender make over 100 appearances with him scoring seven times.
In this spell, he also had a huge amount of silverware success with the defender winning the Premier League three times whilst also winning the Champions League and Club World Cup.
Evans would go on to join West Bromwich Albion in 2015 and, in the three-year spell that he was at the club, he would make 96 appearances whilst also scoring five goals.
His next step took him to Leicester City, making 153 appearances and scoring seven goals, before he returned to Manchester United in 2023, making 41 appearances before he retired from professional football.
Jonny Evans has continued to be involved with Manchester United, though, with him firstly taking up a position as the head of loans and pathways before he stepped down from this position in December 2025.
He has recently formed part of Michael Carrickās team, which decided Champions League qualification last Sunday, and this week, according to SunSport, he took part in drills with the squad to fill in for low numbers.
Since retiring from professional football, his roles have not seen him specifically playing in training with the squad, therefore meaning this is the first time that the defender has played in training since his retirement last year.
His inclusion highlights the defensive absence of Matthijs de Ligt currently, given that the Netherlands international is still struggling with his back injury.
It remains to be seen when de Ligt will return to training or if he will return to playing in the Premier League in the remaining games of the season for the club.
