Benfica Plans to Discuss Contract Renewal with Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has had an incredible management career so far, and it’s not over yet. Across his 26 years in club management, the 63-year-old has led top clubs including Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and AS Roma.

Throughout this time, he has lifted two Champions League trophies, eight league titles, and 13 domestic cups. He has also been recognized as the World’s Best Club Coach four times at different clubs.

Last summer, The Special One returned to Benfica, where he started his management career, after being let go by Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Now, despite links to Real Madrid and Ruben Amorim being set to replace him, Jose Mourinho looks set to stay with the club.

Benfica Look to Retain Jose Mourinho

Portuguese publication O Jogo has reported that Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, is set to meet with Mourinho later this week to begin discussing a contract renewal.

Mourinho’s current contract is already due to run until 2027, with no urgency for Benfica to negotiate a new deal. However, the Portuguese side seems eager to secure their manager after reports have emerged linking him to Real Madrid, as the LaLiga giants are in search of a new head coach.

It’s understood that the contract includes a clause allowing either party to terminate the agreement within ten days of the end of the season, requiring the club to pay half the compensation, estimated to be around £2.6 million.
