Jose Mourinho Nears Return to Real Madrid After Recent Speculations
Jose Mourinho is reportedly in final negotiations to return to a former club. This is despite only recently dismissing speculation surrounding his future.
The Portuguese manager has been heavily linked with several major jobs in recent months following his time with Benfica. However, Mourinho recently insisted he did not want to discuss his future until after the final game of the season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United recently parted ways with Ruben Amorim, with Michael Carrick currently serving as interim manager at Old Trafford following a difficult campaign.
According to BBC Sport, Mourinho is now in advanced talks to become Real Madrid manager for a second spell at the Bernabeu. The report claims the 63-year-old is currently the only candidate Real Madrid are speaking to as they search for a replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa, who took charge in January after Xabi Alonso’s departure. However, Real Madrid are now seemingly ready to turn back to Mourinho more than a decade after his first stint at the club.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup during his time in Spain. The Portuguese coach only joined Benfica last September on a two-year contract, making the situation even more surprising. Speaking recently, Jose Mourinho said: “There’s a match against Estoril, and from Monday onwards I’ll be able to answer questions about my future as a coach and Benfica’s future.”
Real Madrid have also recently seen several players linked with Premier League moves. Aurelien Tchouameni has been linked with Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window as the club searches for a replacement for Casemiro, who is leaving at the end of his contract.
The French midfielder recently made headlines after reports emerged regarding an internal issue involving teammate Federico Valverde. For now, though, the focus at the Bernabeu appears to be on the managerial situation. The former United boss is seemingly edging closer to a dramatic return to Real Madrid 13 years after leaving the club.
