Jose Mourinho Addresses Real Madrid Speculation Amid Benfica Tenure
Jose Mourinho has managed some of the world’s best football sides including Manchester United, Real Madrid, FC Porto, and Chelsea over his long and elusive career.
The 63-year-old, who won the Europa League and League Cup during his time at Old Trafford, currently leads Benfica in Portugal, where the team sits second in the league with just three games remaining in the season.
Mourinho, however, has been linked with a return to Real Madrid, with Jorge Mendes, his agent, offering the manager to the Spanish outfit.
Madrid’s current manager, Àlvaro Arbeloa, appears set to depart the club at the conclusion of the season, having secured just one win in the last five matches. A performance review is on the horizon as the campaign winds down.
Jose Mourinho has emerged as a potential candidate for the opening, although Jürgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsmann are also in the conversation.
Mourinho has now addressed these links, providing both clarity and an update to supporters.
Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s clash with Famalicao on Sunday, via AS, the 63-year-old stated, “nobody from Real Madrid has spoken to me, I can guarantee you that.”
“I’ve been in football for too many years, just like you in journalism, and we’re used to these things, but nothing from Real Madrid.”
Mourinho also provided an update regarding his future at Benfica, saying, “I can’t say anything more. I’ve already told his colleague that, as far as Real Madrid is concerned, nothing, and as far as Benfica is concerned, they already know the situation.”
“I have one more year left on my contract with Benfica, and that’s it.”
These comments might indicate a temporary cooling of speculation linking Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid; however, as the season draws to a close, further updates and discussions are likely to arise.
