Last week, it was confirmed that Ipswich Town is returning to the Premier League under the leadership of Kieran McKenna after being relegated last year.
The Tractor Boys faced relegation during their first Premier League stint since 2002, but they are now poised for another opportunity at the top flight.
After finishing in second place, just behind Coventry City, Kieran McKenna is actively putting together his team to ensure they do not drop back to the Championship next summer.
In light of this, Ipswich Town has announced their first new signing since securing promotion: recent Ajax loanee Chuba Akpom.
Kieran McKenna Signs Reinforcements Ahead of Premier League Campaign
In their official announcement, Ipswich Town stated, “Ipswich Town can confirm Chuba Akpom will join the Blues on a permanent deal.”
The statement added, “The forward, 30, moved to Portman Road on loan from Ajax in the summer of 2025, with a permanent move subsequently triggered during the course of the 2025/26 season.”
“Chuba made a total of 31 appearances throughout the course of the campaign, with crucial goals against Hull City and Oxford United contributing to the club’s promotion to the Premier League.”
“The permanent deal for Chuba, which runs until 2029, will come into effect from July 1.”
However, he was not the only new signing for Kieran McKenna today, as the club also confirmed the arrival of Cedric Kipre.
In announcing their second signing, Ipswich Town stated, “Ipswich Town is pleased to confirm the permanent signing of Cédric Kipré from Stade de Reims on a two-year contract.”
“The central defender spent the 2025/26 season on loan with the Blues and triggered a deal to become a Town player on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.”
“Cédric, 29, made 32 league appearances for Town during the 2025/26 season, netting goals against Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Wrexham.”
The strong performances from both loanees evidently impressed Kieran McKenna, leading him to retain their services as they aim for a successful stay in the Premier League.
