The Brits And The Spaniards

With Atlético Madrid and Arsenal known for their pragmatic and defensive style of play, many anticipated that their encounters would yield a limited number of goals. This expectation proved accurate throughout both legs of their Champions League semifinal matchups.

The first contest, held in Madrid, concluded with a 1-1 draw. Both goals resulted from penalties, with Viktor Gyökeres giving Arsenal the lead just before halftime, followed by Julián Álvarez equalizing in the 56th minute.

The second leg delivered a single goal, but it was monumental for Arsenal supporters. This time, no penalties were involved. Approaching the end of the first half, Leandro Trossard passed to Bukayo Saka, who swiftly found the back of Atlético’s net. With this goal, Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years, finishing with a 2-1 aggregate score.
