Gabriel Gudmundsson has finally addressed the hamstring injury that kept him off the field during Leeds United’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea. In an interview with Swedish outlet Hallandsporten, after being named in Sweden’s 26-man World Cup squad by Graham Potter, the left-back was cautious with his words. “It’s nothing that I can comment on,” he stated when asked about the injury. For a player known for his openness, this vague response speaks volumes.

Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Uncertain Status Leaves Room for Speculation

Gudmundsson has missed the recent win over Burnley and the draw against Spurs as Leeds secured their place in the Premier League. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about international duties. “I’ve been in close contact with the national team staff and I’ll be 100% ready when the squad meets up on May 27th,” he assured.

Interestingly, he spoke about his time at Elland Road as if it were already finished. “I had a great season in Leeds where we secured the contract,” he commented, which gives an impression that he believes his contributions for the current season may have concluded. Leeds United still has fixtures against Brighton and West Ham upcoming, but with safety achieved, manager Daniel Farke may choose not to take any risks with him.

In addition to the uncertainty surrounding his injury, there is significant news on the horizon for Gudmundsson. He is set to become a father for the first time during the World Cup, a momentous life event he is preparing for with professionalism. “It’s a special summer. 2026 is going to be hard to beat,” he told Hallandsporten.
