Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Thlopane Motsepe has characterized the current Premier Soccer League (PSL) season as highly competitive, despite the team’s recent challenges. Following their 3-2 defeat to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium, Sundowns’ hold on the title has diminished significantly.
The loss has put second-placed Orlando Pirates in a position where they must win both of their remaining matches against Durban City and Orbit College to secure their first title in over ten years.
Motsepe acknowledged that the performance of other PSL teams has elevated the overall level of competition this season. “Our coach said it at the beginning of the season that this was going to be a very, very tough campaign,” he noted during an interview on SuperSport TV. He attributed the difficulty partly to post-Club World Cup fatigue but emphasized that credit should also go to rival teams for their heightened standards of play.
“You know, for us, we always welcome competition. It makes everybody better… this is one of those seasons where we can all be very proud of the fact that there’s been a lot of competition,” Motsepe stated. He also expressed satisfaction with the team’s efforts this season as they now prepare for their upcoming challenges.
