Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt underwent surgery to address a long-standing back injury. The Dutch player started the season positively and secured his place as a regular starter under manager Ruben Amorim.
However, the 26-year-old sustained a back injury in November and has not appeared on the field since then.
Matthijs de Ligt Undergoes Back Surgery
Initially, De Ligt’s injury didn’t appear severe, and he was expected to recover quickly. Yet, nearly six months have passed without any game time for the centre-back, leading to growing concerns among fans.
De Ligt had been making gradual progress in his recovery, recently returning to training on grass while still focusing on individual workouts away from the team.
On Friday afternoon, Samuel Luckhurst, the Manchester United correspondent for the Sun, reported that the player had undergone back surgery.
