Manchester City 3 (Antoine Semenyo 31′, Omar Marmoush 40′, Savinho 83′)

Crystal Palace 0

Manchester City secured a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium tonight, continuing their push in the title race against Arsenal. First-half goals from Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush set the tone for the match, while a late strike from Savinho confirmed all three points for Pep Guardiola’s team. The performances of Phil Foden and Savinho stood out, along with the successful return of Josko Gvardiol from injury.

When the starting lineups were announced, Guardiola opted for six changes from the team that defeated Brentford. With the FA Cup final against Chelsea approaching, Guardiola rotated his squad effectively. The most notable change was the return of Josko Gvardiol, who made his first start since suffering a right tibial fracture back in January.

First half.

As the match began, Manchester City understood that only a victory would keep them in the title hunt. Anything less was not an option.

Crystal Palace quickly showed their attacking intent in the second minute. A well-placed ball over City’s high defensive line found Brennan Johnson, who assisted Jean-Philippe Mateta. Mateta’s close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, although an offside flag halted any further action. This early chance highlighted Palace’s capability to exploit defensive lapses.

Despite City enjoying the majority of possession and pushing Palace back, the visitors crafted a significant chance in the 11th minute. A counter-attack led to a shot from Yéremy Pino, which deflected off Gvardiol and went behind for a corner. From that corner, Chris Richards narrowly headed over the bar, as Palace maintained their threat with limited opportunities.

City create their first real opportunity of the match.

City’s first genuine opportunity arose in the 20th minute, initiated by Phil Foden’s pass to Rayan Ait-Nouri. The Algerian moved into the penalty area and managed a shot that hit the side netting, leaving Palace keeper Dean Henderson scrambling.

As the half-hour mark approached, Manchester City struggled to break through the resolute Palace defense. However, the dynamic shifted in the 31st minute.

Phil Foden sets up Antoine Semenyo to open the scoring!

In the 31st minute, City took the lead. Following a period of sustained possession, Foden executed a brilliant backheel to unlock Antoine Semenyo, who calmly finished past Henderson to give City a 1-0 lead.

Palace responded immediately, with Mateta’s play leading to a powerful drive from Tyrick Mitchell, which Donnarumma expertly saved.

City double their lead as they press on.

Manchester City extended their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute. A clever pass from Gvardiol found Foden, who set up Omar Marmoush. Marmoush’s precise strike beat Henderson, solidifying City’s control in the match.

Shortly after, Henderson made another impressive save, this time to deny Gvardiol’s header from a corner. City continued pressing but missed another opportunity as Bernardo Silva’s shot went high and wide.

At halftime, City led 2-0. Foden’s two assists highlighted his impact, and City’s first-half performance was commanding.

Second half.

The second half began similarly, with City controlling possession. Palace, however, aimed to press more aggressively. A notable early incident was a yellow card awarded to Tyrick Mitchell for a foul on Savinho.

As the hour approached, the match’s pace slowed. Marmoush had a chance in the 55th minute but shot wide, marking a quieter spell early in the second half.

Palace finally forced a shot on target in the 62nd minute, but Sarr’s effort lacked power, causing no issues for Donnarumma.

The game drifts toward its conclusion with 20 minutes left.

With 20 minutes remaining, City appeared to be managing the game comfortably, while Palace occasionally threatened on the break. Just as City seemed to be in control, Donnarumma’s misplaced pass nearly handed Palace a route back. A foul by Kamada on Kovacic resulted in a booking for Kamada, and City remained unscathed.

Savinho scores to secure the win after a brilliant Cherki run.

In the 83rd minute, City sealed the victory with a third goal. Rayan Cherki orchestrated a powerful run, setting up Savinho, who calmly chipped the ball over Henderson for the final goal of the match.

Savinho’s goal marked the concluding significant moment of the game, as Manchester City completed a solid 3-0 win to maintain pressure on Arsenal in the title chase. Guardiola will take comfort from the strong contributions from squad players and the excellent outings of Foden and Gvardiol. City now turns its attention to the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday.
