Manchester City Eyes Young Right-Back Givairo Read Amid Bayern Munich‘s Shift in Transfer Focus

Manchester City continues its search for a right-back, particularly as Matheus Nunes has established himself as a top player in the Premier League. The club seeks to acquire a young right-back who can provide backup for Nunes while developing for a future starting role. A strong candidate is Givairo Read, a talented right-back from Feyenoord. Christian Falk has previously reported for CF Bayern Insider that both Bayern Munich and Manchester City expressed interest in signing Read this summer. However, recent updates indicate that Bayern Munich’s focus has shifted, potentially giving City a clearer path to acquire Read.

Bayern Munich has other priorities in the summer transfer market beyond pursuing Givairo Read. Falk reports that the Bundesliga club’s top target is securing a deal for Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. While Bayern remains interested in Read, they feel adequately covered in the right-back position and view signing him as a lower priority.

Historically, Bayern Munich has been seen as Manchester City’s main competitor in the race for Read’s signature. Recent developments suggest that with Bayern’s focus on Gordon, City may have the opportunity to pursue Givairo Read more aggressively.

Both Manchester City and Bayern Munich clearly recognize the potential in Givairo Read. The 19-year-old full-back excels at both left and right-back positions, showing exceptional ability to advance into attack. His skills as an overlapping full-back are impressive for a player of his age, and he demonstrates strong dribbling ability—qualities essential for modern-day full-backs. While Read has had injury concerns, these are expected to improve as he gains more experience.

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie believes that Givairo Read is ready for a move to a club like Manchester City. Van Persie stated that he knows Read well from their time together, adding, “He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago.” He commended Read’s growth on the pitch and expressed confidence in his readiness to take the next step in his career.

As the summer transfer window progresses, both Bayern Munich and Manchester City will monitor their options regarding Givairo Read. With Bayern’s current focus elsewhere, City may find the timing right to secure Read, who could fit seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s squad while providing essential support for Matheus Nunes.
