Injuries Challenge Manchester United Players as Season Progresses

Injuries continue to affect current and former Manchester United players, even at this late stage of the season.

Matthijs de Ligt has fallen victim to this with his back injury still keeping him out of action as the team approaches a critical stage of the campaign.

Patrick Dorgu, however, has managed to escape the grasp of injuries with a return to the bench for Manchester United in their clash against Brentford on Monday evening.

Leny Yoro also made a return as he came off the bench in the second half, helping Michael Carrick’s side secure all three points for United.

Looking at other teams, Willy Kambwala made a return to the field after recovering from a hamstring injury, playing nine minutes at the end of Villarreal’s 5-1 victory over Levante.

The central defender had been on the bench for recent games but was called upon by manager Marcelino García on Saturday.

This marks the 21-year-old’s first competitive appearance since late May last year when he played a full game against Sevilla.

Kambwala progressed through the Manchester United academy before breaking into the first team during the 2023-24 season.

He made ten appearances for the Red Devils before transferring to Spain in the summer of 2024, joining Villarreal.

After 21 appearances in his first season with the Spanish club, injuries have limited him to just one appearance this season, that being against Levante on Saturday.

Willy Kambwala may hope that the coming season will offer him more opportunities to play and develop his skills.
