Manchester United Secures Champions League Return and Eyes New Signings

Manchester United has officially secured their place in next season’s Champions League by finishing third in the 2025/26 Premier League. This marks a significant turnaround for the club, which suffered a disappointing 15th-place finish last season.

To enhance their squad, United brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens during the summer transfer window. The impact of these signings has been evident throughout the season, with Mbeumo, Sesko, and Cunha revitalizing the attacking lineup, while Lammens has provided much-needed stability in goal.

As the summer transfer window approaches, United is already considering further enhancements to the squad. The club has allocated £150 million to acquire three new midfielders, with Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s exit prompting this move. Additionally, they are seeking a left-back to succeed Luke Shaw and another left-winger.

CentreDevils delves into potential first signings for the Michael Carrick era, following his appointment as the interim manager for the upcoming season.

Ederson – Atalanta

First on the list is Ederson from Atalanta, which is logical given the club’s midfield priorities. With plans to recruit up to three new midfielders, Ederson is a candidate to partner with Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield. He has been on United’s radar for three years under previous managers Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, and now Michael Carrick.

Recent reports indicate that Manchester United has reached an agreement for £43 million (€50 million) to bring the Brazilian midfielder to Old Trafford. However, two main challenges could affect the deal: Atletico Madrid’s interest, as they have reportedly agreed on personal terms with Ederson, and his lack of Premier League experience.

Sandro Tonali – Newcastle United

Next up is Sandro Tonali, currently with Newcastle United, who has emerged as a priority target for United since Manchester City intensified their interest in Elliot Anderson. While Tonali initially showed interest in returning to Serie A, reports suggest United is optimistic about luring him away from St James’ Park.

Despite Juventus‘ interest, they are unable to match United’s financial offers, particularly after the club’s Champions League qualification. Having been crucial for Newcastle this season, Tonali is viewed as a fitting successor to the departing Casemiro.

With negotiations reportedly nearing completion, it seems the real question is not whether Manchester United will sign Tonali or Ederson, but which of them will arrive first.

Lewis Hall – Newcastle United

Staying with Newcastle, left-back Lewis Hall is identified as a strong contender to replace Luke Shaw. The England international has made an impression at Newcastle since his move from Chelsea, but he may seek a change this summer. He reportedly prefers to remain in the Premier League but does not wish to return to London.

This preference gives United a significant advantage in pursuing Hall, given their recent contact with his agents. With Shaw returning to form and Patrick Dorgu seeming more suited as a winger, the urgency for a reliable left-back option intensifies, particularly after Tyrell Malacia’s departure following the end of his contract. Without a solid backup, United may have to rely on youth players Harry Amass and Diego Leon.

Alex Scott – Bournemouth

Another prospective early signing for United could be Alex Scott from Bournemouth. Throughout the season, United has shown interest in several players from the club, including Antoine Semenyo (prior to his move to Manchester City), Marcus Tavernier, and others.

CentreDevils has confirmed that United recently engaged in talks with Bournemouth regarding Scott. The midfielder fits well into United’s recruitment strategy, being both a proven Premier League player and a young talent, making him a long-term solution rather than a short-term fix.

Given the uncertain future at Bournemouth following manager Andoni Iraola’s departure, Scott could soon find himself at Old Trafford.
